Hazel has worked extensively in publishing, as Editor of Nursing Older People, Assistant Clinical Editor for Nursing Standard, Acting Editor for Primary Health Care, Managing Editor on Nursing Management and Consultant Editor for Elderly Care.
She is currently:
- Consultant Editor Nursing to the Journal of Dementia Care
- On the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Older People Nursing
- With Jonathan Webster, Guest Editor for an Older People themed edition of the Journal of Nursing Maagement due for publication in March 2008
Hazel has successfully undertaken courses in journalism, advanced feature writing, article commissioning and managing journals.
Her published work includes over 50 journal articles and a range of monographs, reports, guidance booklets and tools.
She has edited six textbooks:

- Older People and Nursing: Issues of Living in a Care Home, with Pauline Ford (Elsevier, 1996)
- Health Ageing: Nursing Older People, with Irene Schofield (Elsevier, 1999)
