Before starting her independent consultancy Hazel held a range of appointments including:

• 1993-4 Adviser on Nursing and Older People to the RCN
• 1991-93 Senior Teacher and Subject Leader in Nursing Theory and Practice, St Bartholomew’s College of Nursing, London.
• 1987-91 Lecturer/Practitioner in the Faculty of Advanced Health Care and Management, Roding College of Health Care Studies, Essex.

Additional appointments:

• 1995-9 Chair of the RCN's Association for the Care of Older People.
• 2000-2004 Honorary Nurse Adviser to the Elizabeth Finn Trust.
• 2002-2007 Editor: Nursing Older People Journal
• From 2007 Consultant Editor (Nursing) to the Journal of Dementia Care
• From 2005 Visiting Senior Research Fellow, City University, London
